The head-and-shoulders oval image of Hosmer was "published by E. Anthony, 501 Broadway, N.Y., manufacturer of photographic albums, from photographic negative in Brady's National Portrait Gallery." Hosmer writes to Mr. Gould from Rome recommending a cook.

Harriet Goodhue Hosmer (October 9, 1830 – February 21, 1908) was a neoclassical sculptor, considered the most distinguished female sculptor in America during the 19th century. She is known as the first female professional sculptor. Among other technical innovations, she pioneered a process for turning limestone into marble. Edward Anthony (1819-1888) was a photographer in the American West. He studied under Samuel Morse, and later opened a daguerreotype studio and manufacturing company. H.T.
